In line with CAP Action EL/24/16, the Electricity Storage Policy Framework for Ireland (ESPF) was published by my Department in July 2024. The policy framework included 10 Government actions to support the role of electricity storage systems in Ireland’s energy transition.

By addressing key areas such as market access, technical standards, and funding mechanisms, the Policy aims to provide a realistic framework for achieving Ireland’s renewable energy targets.
A route to market for the identified optimum (long duration) electricity storage requirements for 2030-2040 is to be in place before the end of 2028.
