ESSs in an alternating current (AC) grid cannot store electrical energy directly. Figure 1 depicts the most important storage technologies for the power grid.

This can be achieved through optimizing placement, sizing, charge/discharge scheduling, and control, all of which contribute to enhancing the overall performance of the network.
