The LLC converter is a resonant inverter with 3 reactive elements where DC input voltage is turned into a square wave by a switch network arranged as either a half- or full-bridge. It feeds the resonant LLC tank that filters out harmonics providing a sinusoidal like voltage and current waveform.
Abstract: This paper presents a novel single-stage inverter based on multi-resonant LLC converter along with its design optimization. A single-stage dc-ac inverter reduces the component count and is favorable for the unity power factor output load.
In an LLC design, bulky passive components such as the transformer, cooling heatsink and capacitances are major design and cost factors for the whole system. Most of the commercially sold LLC converters use switching frequencies up to 300 kHz (see Figure 2).
It includes all of the required elements for an LLC converter, such as the high performance resonant controller ICE2HS01G, IPL60R650P6S 600 V CoolMOSTM P6 transistors, and BSC022N04LS6 OptiMOSTM switches.
A 1.2 kW prototype that converts 380 Vdc input to 600 Vac output has been built to show the performance of the proposed single-stage inverter and achieves 97.3% efficiency and 2.17% THD. Published in: 2023 IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition (APEC)
In the power stage of the LLC converter, the main contributor to the losses are the switching losses of the power MOSFETs, the gate driver losses and the losses of the main transformer. Many approaches to compute these losses can be found in the literature .
