The power system in Sri Lanka is managed by the System Control Centre—a function of the CEB transmission licensee. In 2016, energy loss in the transmission network was at 1.7%.
In June 2016, the Sri Lankan government withdrew a plan to build a coal-fired power plant which was under way in collaboration between National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), India and CEB. They proposed the possibility of an LNG thermal power plant instead.
