Self-charging power sources (SCPS) aim to achieve autonomous operation through monolithic integration of three core components: energy harvesters, power management circuits, and supercapacitors/batteries. These devices enable continuous ambient energy harvesting, providing uninterrupted power supply for wearable electronics and IoT applications.
Self-charging power system for outdoor search and rescue SCPSs integrates energy-harvesting and energy storage as one of the promising power sources for next-generation smart electronics. By now, an SCPS composed of enhanced-performance R-HNG and ASC with outstanding storage capability has been prepared.
Flexible self-charging power sources integrate energy harvesters, power management electronics and energy-storage units on the same platform; they harvest energy from the ambient environment and simultaneously store the generated electricity for consumption. Thus, they enable self-powered, sustainable and maintenance-free soft electronics.
Considering these factors, a flexible self-charging system that can harvest energy from the ambient environment and simultaneously charge energy-storage devices without needing an external electrical power source would be a promising solution.
In addition, integrating energy-harvesting and energy storage devices into self-charging power systems (SCPSs) could be an alternative approach, so that the environmental energy can be simultaneously scavenged and stored for sustainable power supply [ 10, 11 ].
Therefore, significant efforts are currently underway to advance energy harvesting and energy storage to develop self-charging, battery-free systems. In this context, SCPSs that integrated functional of energy-harvesting and energy-storing have recently drawn extensive attention.
