The type of solar water pumping system: borehole/well (submerged), floating or surface will depend on the water source. If the source is a borehole (proposed or existing) or deep well, then a submersible pump that fits the borehole or well should be selected. If the water source is a river, then a surface pump should usually be selected.
The required daily volume of water required is: 45 x 200 = 9000 litres or 9 m3 (2378 US gallons) This data is used by the designer to select a solar water pumping system that will provide this volume of water per day.
The designer should initially use pipe that is the same size as the inlets and outlets. The designer then undertakes the frictional loss calculations for that size of water pipes using the known maximum water flow for that solar water pumping system.

Note: Motor and pump are typically directly connected by one shaft and viewed as one unit, however occasionally belts or gears may be used to interconnect the two shafts.
